Stem end rot
Symptoms
- Superficial or deep necrotic tissue at the stem end
- Vascular bundle ring can discolour brown
- Damage can eventually develop into stem end rot
Possible causes
- Black dot (Colletotrichum coccodes): typical symptom is part of the stolon still attached to the stem end with the characteristic microsclerotia
- Certain Fusarium species
- Haulm destruction at very high temperatures
- Rapid haulm destruction ‘plant shock’
