Aphids
Myzus persicae, Aphis frangulae, Aphis nasturtii, Macrosiphum euphorbiae
Symptoms
- Aphids mainly on the underside of the leaves
- Piercing of the plant cells and sucking of the cell contents
- Secretion of honeydew on which black sooty mould fungus develops
- Transmission of viruses (see virus section)
Spread
- In optimal conditions numbers can develop extremely quickly
Most important species
- Myzus persicae = peach potato aphid (see PVY)
- Macrosiphum euphorbiae = potato aphid (see false potato top roll)
- Aphis frangulae = alder buckthorn
- Aphis nasturtii = buckthorn potato aphid
