White mould
Sclerotinia sclerotiorum
Symptoms
- Symptoms on tubers are rare
- White coloured rot and parchment-like, roughly ridged skin
- Sclerotia develop on the fungal growth
- In the majority of cases the sclerotia are only apparent in storage
Infection and spread
- Host plants: peas, beans, chicory and carrots
- Survives in soil as sclerotia
- Small orange apothecia grow from sclerotia and release sexual ascospores
- Spores travel on the wind and infect wind/rain damaged crops
