Phoma eupyrena
Symptoms
- Only visible on tubers during storage
- Initially a superficial dark coloured dry rot
- Later develops as a deep penetrating dry rot in the tuber
- A white discolouration is visible on the outline of the diseased tissue
Infection and spread
- Usually found on senescing leaves
- Rain or irrigation washes the spores to the tubers
- Disease enters via harvesting damage
Possible confusion with
- Gangrene (Phoma exigua)
